Are Geocachers really that bad in general? I'm new to this whole thing so I'm still learning. Are they like...enemies?

That's what I figured when I first got the message, but when I spoke with her she said specifically that a couple of geocachers had brought the event listing on AQ to her attention.

I'm (mostly) tongue-in-cheek with the "turned us in" comment. ;) It's not a big deal, really!

I walked many of the trails at Wm O'Brien yesterday, found locations for my temporary letterboxes and I tried geocaching. This park is HUGE!!

Are you riding the train from Osceola? or Stillwater? If you are going to Osceola, remember that the bridge (Hwy 243) is closed. If you are riding the train from Stillwater, be sure to let me know since that is my side of the Metro area.

I dont suppose you hid any while you were there??

I did not hide any boxes yet. I only have one box that I may request as a permanent plant. I'll have to borrow the park's GPS to mark the coordinates so I can fill out the form.

On a side note, there are several boxes that "She Who Plants" planted and Art Gekko adopted (in or near Wm O'Brien). Some of the boxes are missing ... so be sure to check the "Found" reports before spending time searching. I was especially disappointed to see that A Bit of Scandinavian Humor is MIA. That box was my first American find; it was in a lovely location; and it is so close to Wm O'Brien!!

I was looking for a spot to hide my box once when I stumbled upon a geocache. It was in plain view in a rock wall. I ended up putting my box about thirty feet away and I'm terrified that they will try to trade my stamp. I put a note in it to discourage trading, but you never know, considering all the horror stories about stamps replaced with geocrap

A good reason to list event boxes so that only people with at lest a f1 rating may see them.....

I was hoping to find a few of the She who plants Boxes as well.

These are awesome boxes, and are worth a special trip if you don't have time to look for them on the day of the event.

Thanks for the heads up. I already shot my self in the foot once this spring, looking for a small series (I printed the clues last fall) that I assumed was replanted by now. I really felt silly stumbling around at 1 AM with nothing to show for it!

The She Who Plants Boxes from O'Brien State Park were removed by park staff.

I believe that the boxes in Scandia are still going strong. The hitchhiker hostel is still available, too.

Also, don't get your hopes up about the cache/letterbox hybrid in Osceola ... the bridge is out until July :(

If you want to see a couple of clever hides, check out stages 2 and 3 of the O'Brien SP multi-stage cache.

I have also looked for boxes that have been known to be missing and retired.

I tend to print up the clues when a box is first listed then print a map on the back of the page if needed. File them then search thought the paper when I want to go boxing.
I still do the same thing now but add the step of looking up the Box before I leave.

Thanks for the heads up about the Wm. O'Brien State Park Multi-Cache. Sounds like lots of fun! FoundUnicorn and I plan to get out and do that one sometime. We're on a roll so this will be another fun one to find!

This should be a wake up call to every boxer in Mn. STOP putting the name of the park in your clues so blatantly. If She Who Plants had originally been a little more cryptic in the location of the park her boxes might still be there. I never had the chance to get them and I'm sad about that. She's a fantastic carver and I really enjoyed her Scandia boxes.

Speaking of a-holes removing boxes check this tool out: http://protectsensitiveecosystems.blogspot.com/. SERIOUSLY!!!

O.K. I'm off my soapbox now :) Have fun this Sat. everyone, I'll miss you all and I hope I can get my box I created for the gathering planted.

Speaking of a-holes removing boxes

Everyone has to have their own hobby. It is too bad that one person's hobby effects another's. This blogger probably believes in negative energy and unfortuanately their negative energy is causing the polar ice cap to melt.

The good news for us (in the midwest) is that the blogger lives far, far away.
The good news for the letterboxes that he/she outsted is that he/she posted Trail names and locations so that the postive-energy people can now know that they need to restrict their clues.

What a grinch! Do you guys have any other tips for keeping people like this away from the LBs I plant? Should I put a minimum found count on them?

I have plenty of ways to "hide" clues. I'll tell you about them later, I'm off to go plant a couple boxes right now....

I put a found count of one on most of my boxes. Just because I want the person searching for my box to at lest have an account. Their is nothing stopping a person from opening a account and gust hitting find icon on a few boxes. You can make your box a brain puzzle and have knowing the name of the park part of the puzzle. But although I like puzzles I don't care for driving so I like to Know what park I am driving to.

But mostly I don't think it is part of Minnesota culture for people to hunt letter boxes down and toss them.
