I would go out of my way to get a stamp with history like that.

I had found a stamp that was planted Sept 11 2001 but had been in a controlled burn area. nothing survived but a mound of rubber on charred wood. But it makes a cool abstract print after I cleaned it up. And with permission from the box owner I intend to replant somewhere with everything ready (was going to plant with a new carve and in a first aid box) but I can't seem to find a place to plant thats worthy.

I'd suggest a firehouse, police station, near a military base, hospital, etc. There is a geocache at a firehouse in my town, and it was planted with permission. I'd guess that if you explained what the deal was, you might get permission to plant. You might even do a bonus box or an additional stamp inside the box of an American Flag. It would be a great tribute.

Too bad I can't plant it in one of the suggested in NY, that would be perfect. I just don't feel that where I live is worthy!

If you live in America, it's worthy. Firefighters, military, doctors, nurses, and police weren't just from New York. They came from across the country. So did volunteers. It was a tragic page in the history of 3 cities, but the effects were felt nationwide. For that matter, the effects were felt worldwide.

it was one of my favorite stamps, plus the story of surviving a forest fire would be compelling.

Which one was it?

Wow, I'm surprised the pink stuff survived. I was trying to transfer an image using my iron and apparently it was too hot and/or I left it on too long becuase chunks of pink stuffed stuck to the paper and ripped off the rest of the pink piece.

I won't know for sure until I figure out how to dig it out of the clump of plastic that surrounds it.

Well, no such luck. The portion of the stamp I could see looked pretty good, but hidden within that blob of plastic the plastic and the rubber were one! Had to toss it.

I'll probably recarve for planting somewhere else. I like the image a lot. I'll carve it a bit smaller, since I've gotten better with details in the four years since this stamp was carved.

What I meant was I haven't found anywhere here that I would want to plant a box like that. There's nothing special or sacred here and I fear it wouldn't last. There aren't many boxers or passing boxers, and like I said, the areas here are just not very appropriate. There is no patriotism here.

That stamp is a treasure that needs to be shared. If it was me, I'd take it to a Red Cross location in Ft. L., but if you truely feel it needs a more honorable location... how about making it a traveling event box? You could include the stamp's story and when ever there is an event in the woods (where there have been controled burns) or a patriotic BBQ... your rescued stamp could be there.

I'd be proud to seek it out.

I have heard that people in hot climates like the "orange stuff" because it holds up better in extreme temps(both hot and cold) Any opinions on how "pink stuff" holds up?

I haven't seen any problems with orange or white PZ, or pink stuff, or even mastercarve here in the hot desert part of arizona.

It makes me sad too! Its a big part of why I want to move as soon as possible. To me living here is like living in another country, a very angry hostile country. One where not speaking spanish is offensive! I've been cursed at in spanish so many times because I don't speak spanish, like I'm trying to be rude.
Ok! Maybe I should be on the venting board!!
But I do love the traveling event box idea! Think I might do that, then I can share it with everyone.

The story was great! Sadly, the person must have removed the pics from their blog because the link in the clues goes to PNF and when I went to their main blog page, they don't have an entry on that date. I really wanted to see the pics.

You have to put together the two halves of the link - it's broken in the story. There's a picture of the melted box there - it's awesome!

OK, even I thought that was funny!

It does, of course, suggest the possibility of some tests. Put scrap pieces of several types of material on aluminum foil inside a covered pot, put them in the oven, set it at just about the lowest setting it'll take, and leave them there for a couple of hours. Take them out, see what has happened to each. If the answer is nothing at all, try again at a slightly higher setting. Of course, you're likely to stink up the oven and the house; plan on cleaning the oven after the test.

Perform two more similar tests, one with the scraps sitting in bright sunlight, and one with the scraps in the freezer for a few weeks.
