Trick or Treaters
Board: Yakking It Up

The time for trick or treating started at 5pm. It's 6:18pm and we just had 8 in the past 7 minutes. Nobody showed for an entire hour. Granted it's cold here this year, but last year from what my mom said, there was only 22 kids. I remember a decade or so ago it was a lot busier. My parents would hand out to over 40 kids. Now more take their kids to whatever shindig that is going on. Also the neighborhood has seen better days too.
Is it slow for other people around the country or do you have more than enough?

My parents neighborhood is so busy that so far we have handed out over 1,000 pieces of candy. We give one per person and 2 for the exremely good costumes. Our neighbors came over asking if we needed more because they were running to the store. It is crazy busy here. Ours started at 6 and goes till 8

Aurora,
i could see how your parent's neighborhood would be busy! We go into towns like that to do our trick or treating!
I've always wanted to live in an area where we hand out candy, but we are true Hicks from the sticks here, and in the 10 years i've lived in this house, i've never had one trick or treater, and my mom lives next door, and she has lived in that house for almost 20 years, and has MAYBE had 3!

I don't know if our area counts, because we do Trick or Treating the Sunday before Halloween, so Last Sunday we had about 30 kids. It is so few kids that some people who take their own kids out leave a bowl full of candy out on their steps and there is always some in the bowl.

We haven't had trick or treaters for years. I always buy some candy "just in case" and then end up eating it myself :o) (so I always buy my favorite kind ;o)

Wow...
They mist be in a neighborhood that has people that drive there to go trick or treating, but do not live there. As a kid, other kids always suggested to go trick or treating in Grand Blanc near Warwick Hills. Never did that.

We ended up having twenty kids there. My mom bought 3 bags, so plenty of candy left, but when I get back over there it might be gone. Anything sweet around is too tempting.

I don't know that we even had trick-or-treating in my apt. complex. Usually the office give us signs to put outside our doors if we are participating, but they didn't this year. I usually only get about 6 or 7 kids per year anyway, so no big deal. And I saw plenty of kids in costume at the museum today. The best one was this adorable little boy, probably about 2, in a stroller, and he was wearing a great penguin costume. :D

I didn't see any of the kids really. My mom handed out the candy, and only held the door open 2 inches. She kept making comments. A teenage boy came to the house wearing a sleeveless dress.

Over three years ago, we moved to a very rural town, and to the outskirts of that town at best. We've had four Halloweens here. Year 1, we stayed here to trick-or-treat and it was awful. Because we're in the sticks, our side streets have ZERO street lights. Hardly any houses had their lights on and we did terribly, so I hopped into the car and went to our old neighborhood 30 minutes away to finish off the night.

Last year and the year before, we skipped our town alltogether and headed to our old city again.

This year, I decided to stay home since Halloween fell on a Saturday. I figured we'd get way more people. We decorated, carved pumpkins and played spooky music out of the open front windows. The kids went with my husband while I stayed home. I think we got a total of 5 separate door knocks, with maybe a total of 15 kids.

I'm taking the candy to work tomorrow. Ugh!

I was very excited last night to have about 30 kids, some years we only have a couple , had over 100 one year and I had to run to store to get more, (after taking the candy away from my kids they wouldn't have eaten)...we just never know from year to year how much candy to buy!
