{Closer to the top, you have to keep your eyes open!}

That's because closer to the top - those hikers that fell off the mountain took the blazes with them on their fast descent back down!

Mud trembles in fear at high elevations! ***slish, slosh, slish, slosh, is mud shaking in her boots!***

That's cause even the trees have given up on the heights - they are scared of heights too ; )

Tea drags my up anyways... I usually hug a tree. If there aren't any at the top - what will I hug???

Hey Now, David!

I say go for it...or as the sneaker ad put it: Just Do It. Do it for you, do it for those who like the challenge, do it for "Ha Ha's", do it 'cuz you can...

Not all 'boxes are for all people,

This sounds like a great idea and challenge. I wouldn't be concerned about whether it's "fair" for all boxers or not. Not all plants are for all boxers. Letterboxers can pick what's right for them, and ignore the ones that aren't. I love seeing new ideas for planting. Go for it!

I just wanted to see what everyone thought. I plan on planting on top of mountains whether people liked it or not. I know there are a certain number of people that would rather do drive-bys and there are people that need that push to do something else extra. SO what better than to add a climb to your boxing adventure.

OH NO I DIDN'T! Another box on a mountain? NOOOOOOO!

I like a good drive-by as much as the next person, but really, the stamps I value most are the ones I have to work for, whether that means a tough hike or a hard mystery to solve!

Not having hiked Blue Job, I can only imagine how nice it was to make it to the top. Sunapee was so nice although the hike up was pretty wet.

Next mountain, November 30th! Now where do I go next? Blue Job maybe!

David, Blue Job isn't really a mountain. It'll only take you an hour to hike to the top and back down (without stopping for too long). :D So if you're looking for something challenging, that isn't really the one (though there are challenging PARTS). But it's great for kids! :) And me! :D :D :D

I am looking at the map of new hampshire everyone can grab at any number of wonderful rest areas and with winter coming, I was thinking of searching for something small. Mt Uncanoonuc is in Goffstown, which is only about 30 minutes away. It reached, I think it was, around 1,300 feet. Only problem was, according to a hiking website I use, it only takes 15 minutes to hike since there is a road that brings you to a trail head, most of the way up. It has lots of history to it and it will be hiked at some point, but I am looking else where.

I could hike Mount Monadnock, Blue Job Mountian, Mount Kearsage again, Mount Major, Mount Whittier, Red Hill Mountain again. I know that Blue Job isn't really a mountain, but anything with a trail to the top is worth hiking and planting a box at. If anyone would like to join me in a late November hike, feel free to let me know. I am planning a hike through snow, YES SNOW, if it is on the ground. This is all in training for the start of the 4,000 footers Elijah & I plan on hiking next summer.

Ellen, you pick a mountain and we will climb it!

We hiked Major in Sept, It is a beautiful hike and the view at the top is amazing. We hiked up the lesser used "Boulder Trail" or Orange trail and it was a great climb! Coming down is a little nerve wracking with all the granite ledges, but really fun too!

There is no universally-accepted definition of mountain. Elevation, volume, relief, steepness, spacing and continuity has been used as criteria for defining a mountain. In the Oxford English Dictionary a mountain is defined as "a natural elevation of the earth surface rising more or less abruptly from the surrounding level and attaining an altitude which, relatively to the adjacent elevation, is impressive or notable."

In the United States, the following points of measurement have been used and taught in geography classes:
-Flat to 500 feet, base to highest point - Rolling Plain
-Highest point 501 to 999 feet above base - Hill
-Highest point 1000 feet or more above base - Mountain

Whether a landform is called a mountain may depend on usage among the local people. The highest point in San Francisco, California, is called Mount Davidson, notwithstanding its height of 990 feet, which makes it ten feet short of the minimum for a mountain in American appellation.

-As noted by Wikipedia

Blue Job and Uncanoonuc have mountain in thier name. Concidering the lack of height that any of the hills around the mountains provide, it had to have been clear that these hills be given the name of mountain. It doesn't matter none to me what they are called. What I do know, they need to be hiked and they will be hiked at some point beofre next summer. They are both listed on my map as mountains and Blue Job has a fire tower on top, extra bonus. Uncanoonuc was a ski area before it was abandoned for ski areas much taller and further north.

Base of Blue Job is 956 ft. - Summit is 1,357 ft. = 401 ft elevation gain. Is the fire tower 100 feet tall?

I haven't been up Major in years. I have found the letterboxes on the side of the mountain since, but never finished the hike to the top. Of course, I will hike the Major soon and plant a box on it as I have been doing with the 2 other mountains I have climbed so far.

I know that Blue Job isn't really a mountain, but anything with a trail to the top is worth hiking and planting a box at.

Just an FYI though, there are already two series planted there: my Owls of Blue Job series, and another one, as well as another onesie box. Also, the final box in my owl series was planted at the top near the fire tower and it has gone missing. I do plan on carving a new stamp at some point but I'm not sure when, and I'll definitely need to find a new location for it. :) It's tricky planting at the top since the rangers can pretty much see everything! Oh and a fun fact, part of the mountain is owned by a lady I work with (she allows the public to use the trails, she's awesome)! :)

The view from the fire tower is not to be missed. I love it up there! :)

Dave, I like Mount Monadnock a lot, and haven't hiked it since I've been boxing, so I might vote for that. Kearsage is good too! Let's shoot for those two???!!! You want me to carve a bonus? (shhhh!)
