I heard through the Central PA e-mail list that budget cuts may force the closure of 35 state parks and forests.

I seriously hope that this doesn't get passed. Attendance numbers really shouldn't determine whether a park stays open, isn't part of the point of the parks that they are preserved land that is appreciated by whatever number of people? It appears that the aliens are safe in the meantime though.

So long as the parks remain open space open to the public and aren't sold to raise money (and that day will come), I must confess that I get everything I need out of them. That doesn't mean that I have it in for rangers - with a few different decisions along the way, that's a career path I might very well have taken myself.

The one main concern that I have is that if they remain "open" but not maintained, they could easily become trashed and not so safe. Otherwise, as long as the hiking is still there, I'm happy!
