Fall being the key word here.
Anything in July or early August might very well force people to choose between an East Coast event and LBCon.

Fall never being my word . . . it leaves out all the teachers and most of the kid boxers who have to be in school. LBCON is in July . . . why not late August? Other vacations vary nationally, even regionally . . . We already had to lose out on Live & Breathe (and I do understand why) but let's try not to do that again!

there are a ton of eastern schools that start in early august, so that wouldn't solve the problem of teachers and kids in school, unfortunately.

Late August still could leave out lots of boxers. School starts around here (Asheville, NC) by Aug. 15th.

The Adirondacks would be great for a location. I've only been there once in my life and loved it.

Part of the reason that Live and Breathe was in the fall was because all of the camps that are viable for something of this nature all full all summer long. AND if you plan it the same year as LBCon, you're going to be making people choose between them, even if they are in different months. People from the West Coast are going to be very unlikely to fly east twice in the same year.

Indeed...unfortunately...that is true

LBCon

for some reason I thought it would NOT be next year precisely for this reason!! An event of this magnitude takes lots of time to plan...I understand they worked on Live & Breathe for almost 2 years & look how wonderful it turned out!!!

Not my idea, just my response to someone else's idea. If you want an East Coast event, St. Louis is not East Coast. It was picked to be a central area. If people want only one major event, then LB Con is it for 2009. I know I'd have liked to go west, but I couldn't go in September with school, although as I said, I understood why Sept. was chosen. Regardless, there are always great events everywhere. We would love to get out beyond the Northeast -- maybe we can this year!

Speaking as a West-Coaster who would LOVE to come to L&B East. Please do not have it the same year as LBCon! I would have to choose between the two and how could I possibly live with my self then? ;-)

I believe that Chadams planning for LBCon will also be two years in the making.

Agreed. Many of us would have to choose and I'm in the NE (or close enough). I believe LBCon was centrally located on purpose so that everyone would go.

As this "hobby" grows, and friendships form, HUGE events will experience some growing pains. Lots up for discussion; Maybe figure out some rotating system going forward?

Okay - everyone - step away from the edge.

Maybe we should let Live and Breathe settle before we start rooting around to try and plan the next big event.

Because it's consistently and historically the single most-expensive entire month to travel in the Northern Hemisphere outside of the weeks around major holidays??

I plan on being at LBCon. I'll probably ride up on my Motorcycle but y'all can follow me home and I'll crank up the leaf blower and clean out the living room.

Let's see....you swing through Arkansas, pick me up. Then it's about two or three more days to the east coast (depending on where exactly the event will be) I think my face would hurt from all the laughing by the time we got there. OK I'll do it.=8)

I just want to take a moment to thank every single person who attended the "We Live and Breathe Letterboxing" event. I know that a lot of you made some very big sacrifices in order to be there. I talked to a lot of people who put off their job responsibilities to attend, or completely re-arranged their vacation plans. Several others skipped out of classes or even dropped classes in order to be there. I know of at least three people who quit their jobs to attend this event! That's committment, my friends. That's the kind of dedication that justifies the subtitle for the event: "A Decade of Obsession".

While it's true that a lot of planning went into this event, the one thing that really made it work was the people who attended. I spent quite a bit of time talking to Charlie, the camp caretaker, during and after the event. He's been running that camp for many, many years, and has seen just about everything. But, even he was impressed by the camaraderie and fellowship that he saw with this particular group. He told me that he's never seen anything quite like it, even among the many church congregations and special interest groups that have camped there over the decades. Despite the fact that we all came from different places (at least 24 States and one Canadian Province were represented) and many of us had never met before, I think it felt more like a reunion of a close-knit family than a hobby-related event.

Of course, special thanks go out to the people who donated door prizes, contributed letterboxes, volunteered their time during the event, stuck around afterwards to help pull boxes, or performed at the campfire and the masquerade ball. I also want to express copious amounts of gratitude to my fellow committee members: Marmalade, buppsters, Camp Fire Lady, Rad Rhymer and RaqsEnigma... as well as Maiden, my co-conspirator for the night boxing activities.

But seriously, every single one of you contributed in some way to the success of this event. I really mean that! Several people have told me that our committee raised the bar for letterboxing event planning. I'm not completely sure if that's true. But I do believe that the people who attended this event raised the bar for having a large group of people get together and treat each other like good friends... like true equals... like people who honestly appreciate each other's company. That's the aspect of this event that will stay with me forever.

Thank you... each and every one of you!
