In most cases, it wouldn't really matter. It's the number of people who agree that's more important than who agreed.

No, you can't see who voted what, just the totals. They got p*ssed because "someone" was disagreeing with every post (It wasn't every post, just every post my friend made.) I explained what I was doing and why, thinking that'd be the end of it, but some of them were still miffed. Snarky comments were made, and I made note of who made them. <g>

We've moved on since then. (But I have a long memory.)

agree (1)

The "love" button, in theory, would cut down on those *pat, pat* kind of snoodleposts when someone posts about something awful happens to them, relatively speaking. (Which, depending on the boards you're on, could be:

Argh! I ran out of yarn!

love(1)

or:

Argh! I just put a sharp metal needle completely through my foot and as a result, my house blew up! I'm posting from the Red Cross van!

love(1)

It serves its purpose on the huggier groups. Personally, I think the agree/disagree buttons are much more intriguing and useful, even when people disagree with things that are, oh, say, factual. (I had someone disagree with a post about my middle name once. As in, "my middle name is...". Factual. But apparently, I don't know my own middle name, because there was the Phantom Disagreer with the clicky-clicky. Go figure.)

Intuitively, those are the two buttons that intrigue me the most. =) The other buttons might have their uses, but I do like the agree and disagree buttons.

I still think the "love button" is hilariously funny. =) If I implement that one, I think I'll call it the "hug button" instead--or at least something that doesn't sound as ridiculously funny as the love button. =)

Any other useful button ideas people might have?

I had someone disagree with a post about my middle name once.

Your middle name is B and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. ;o)

But seriously, when it comes to websites, people click on the wrong items incredibly often which might explain why someone would disagree with your middle name. *shrug* Or maybe someone out there is just disagreeing with every post you make. ;o) Who knows? But I'm not the least bit surprised that there would be odd things like that to happen.

Does the site allow you to click more than one option? Limit how often they can be used? Let you retract votes? So many details to think about......

But I'm so very intrigued! =) Perhaps "intriguing" could be a button. Hmm.... So much to think about.....

Quote there was the Phantom Disagreer

I would just like to say defensively that it was NOT ME that time!

Also, I have a friend who feels strongly that there should be a "WTF" button. ;-) She's very vocal about it on occasion.

Kit Kat-- We're talking about Ravelry (www.ravelry.com), which is to knitting what AQ is to letterboxing. Wonderful community-type website that allows you to chat with others, keep track of your stash and your projects, search others' projects, to see what yarn they used for what project and how they liked it. You can also search for patterns there, and probably a bunch of other stuff I've forgotten at the moment.

Hmmm.

Okay, I signed up for an invitation. Hopefully it won't come until the school year ends--my husband is complaining that I'm already spending too much time on letterboxing--so far the knitting seems to have escaped his notice!!

:-)

Interesting. My husband encourages letterboxing as my creative outlet because the pink stuff stores more compactly than yarn does. I hope he never adds up the cost of either... ;-)

Any advanced bets on how often it would be pressed re: my posts?? Hehehe. Might overload AQ!

 WTF

To which I would say:

snort ™ It's trademarked of course, so you can't use it Ryan :-)

Those button clicks are anonymous (to answer an earlier question). Only you know if you've used one on someones post (it is bold when you have clicked)
They are also a toggle--you can remove one of your own clicks (click again, and you've removed it).
You can click on any of the buttons, you can simultaneously agree and disagree with a post. Or find something educational and funny, etc.

Space bags can be used to help reduce the volume (but of course keep the yardage) of your stash. Just a thought.

The button should become bold and the number 1 in parenthesis is added to the end of it. =)

They'll see that *someone* agreed--they won't see who it is that's doing the agreeing.

still trying to figure out what the purpose of the buttons are

It can give you a sense of what people think about a post. Do a lot of people agree or disagree with what you're saying? Do people think you're funny? =)

Or you can take informal polls, letting people use the buttons as their answers.

Love the buttons. I appreciate that the page changes to show the number, but if you're reading a whole thread and you agree or whatever with something halfway down, the page refreshes and leaves you at teh top of the list, and you have to find where you were. annoying. is there any way that can be fixed, so a refresh returns you to how far you had scrolled down, or to the message you were on??
