Welcome to the Atlas Quest message board!

Use this message board to ask questions about Atlas Quest, make suggestions or comments, and anything else specifically related to this website in particular.

Asking questions about Atlas Quest here could get you answers faster than by e-mailing me directly since—contrary to popular belief—I'm not always online, but there could be plenty of other members around who can do an equally good job of helping you.

You might also see me use this board if I'm contemplating an idea for the website and would like feedback before implementing it. That sort of stuff. =)

Ah, thank you! I didn't look at that today.

I still think we are seriously miscommunicating about the batch subject. Just based upon your responses all I come up with each time is "huh?". :P

My aunt had a lovely baby boy about 15 yrs ago who was born with a congenital heart defect (he passed in his first month of life). Due to his medical condition he was not able to nurse. Being the amazing woman she is, my aunt pumped her milk and donated it to babies in need. While pumping her autistic son walked in on her and said "oh look mom! Turtles!" Omg! I suppose how "they" might look like little turtles under those circumstances. ;)

If anyone thinks my work to make AQ smart-phone friendly is unnecessary, you're now walking proof that that is not the case! =) Even for people who don't use AQ on smartphones, it can affect you!

Are the mod's able to move that response to the right thread or can only a whole thread be moved?

No, we can only move entire threads.

Go to People on the toolbar at the top of the page. Go to Find Letterboxer and type in "Green Tortuga" and then Search. Choose the little envelope icon. Type in the info.
I've had to do this, and you have my sympathy.

I assume I would then leave it somewhere else, right?

No. You put it back where you found it so that others can follow the clues to it.

I found a letterbox in the park. Where do I let them know that I found it.

Welcome to the hobby of letterboxing.

Do you have any more information on the box that you found? It probably had a name and/or number to be able to identify it. If nothing else, you could tell us the name of the park where you found it.

I assume I would then leave it somewhere else, right?

No. It should be left where it was found. That way the next person can find it.

Make sure that you leave it where you found it! Letter boxes stay put, while geocaches generally move. You can use the "simple search" button and type in the box name or box number. If neither of those are listed inside of the box you found, try searching by the city you found it in.

Geocaches are also returned to their original location.

From the geocaching site....

"At its simplest level, geocaching requires these 8 steps:

Register for a free Basic Membership.
Visit the "Hide & Seek a Cache" page.
Enter your postal code and click "search."
Choose any geocache from the list and click on its name.
Enter the coordinates of the geocache into your GPS Device.
Use your GPS device to assist you in finding the hidden geocache.
Sign the logbook and return the geocache to its original location.
Share your geocaching stories and photos online.
There are many other levels to the game. Keep reading the guide to learn more!"

Are you referring to a Hitchhiker? Those move from box to box but, as others have said, a Letterbox stays in one location. Only the owner can move it.

Geocaches do not move either, they stay put. The only difference in finding letterboxes versus geocaches is: letterboxing you find by following directions, geocaches you find by following coordinates.

Well, there used to be a very rare few which were moving caches. I know because I've found a few. They were started in the early days (2001) and were grandfathered for a while. However, the ones remaining until this year have now been converted to trackables.

Nevertheless, there is still one exception that I know of, the International Space Station.

The only difference in finding letterboxes versus geocaches is: letterboxing you find by following directions, geocaches you find by following coordinates.

I wouldn't say that that is the only difference, but it is a major one. Another major difference is that a letterbox must include a stamp or it isn't a letterbox, while a geocache must contain a log book/paper or it isn't a geocache. There are people who make exceptions for their personal finds, in both hobbies.

The difference between geocaching and letterboxing: In geocaching, when you're 20 miles from the cache you know exactly which way to start out, but when you're 20 feet from it you may be at a loss and need to resort to a hint. In letterboxing, when you're 20 miles from the box you may have no idea where to look but once you're within 20 feet you'll walk right to it.

As one who helped to solve an Eevil letterbox, I can tell you that you can be over 200 miles away and still not know where it is. Once we'd narrowed it down to less than a mile we were arguing over more than 200 feet. Nevertheless, from my understanding, once within 20 feet it was easy to find.
