oh...what I think is funny is how People were upset over something that I really think was just flat out an April Fool's joke. (If I'm wrong I will eat my words.)

Most folks (again, myself included) were completely HAD.
Funny stuff y'all...ever who you are.

I have 2 guesses of 2 folks that I think is included in the prank but I would feel like the biggest FOOL of all if it were to be false, so... you can't pry it out of me.

Geez oh pizza ... I'm such a doofus.

Yes, I was too taken up with thoughts of trying to pull off my own April Fools joke on a local list so that when I did a scan of AQ and Marks blog this AM before work, I completely didn't connect the dots on this. But then, the nasty tone of the replies to questions being asked of the seller was a sure-fire way to trip my trigger ... I hate uncalled for rudeness and people just accepting it. So that was actually the "hook" that got me to bite. Dang it, blinded by my own 'hot button' ... I guess there's nothing to do but face the music on it.

Now if I say mea culpa fifty times will you guys stop flooding my email with nasty notes about spoiling your fun? It's not like I don't feel like an idiot already. Yes, yes .. you are all so much more clever and smarter than me (bowing down) I am not worthy (more bowing) oh great and powerful LATTERBOXERS.

Sail on!

That's the problem with hot buttons. That red haze makes it hard to see clearly. ;-)

Actually you pulled a prank on the pranksters! What a wonderful April Fools Day!

That is, if this was really a well-thought-out and superbly planned practical joke...

Actually, I have to applaud anyone who takes a stand against rudeness, even if it turns out to be a hoax.

I suspect that letterboxing's Paragon of Politeness and Propriety, Lady Prisspot would agree.

I have to say, that either way, i would have been extremely PO'd at a vender like that...those questions were absolutely downright rude, and that's just horrible.

IN the event that it was a hoax (like it was), then thank god it was no more than a joke that was meant to fool, because that means it was just harmless fun, and not someone serious.

You know......

I like April Fool's Day. Over the years I have prided myself on pulling off some REALLY good ones that my friends and family never saw coming.

BUT.

Rudeness is rudeness. And April Fool's Day is TODAY. TODAY people. NOT the last week. Ebay is not the place for a national joke that draws in people who have no clue what letterboxing is. Anyone who stumbled on that might actually think it's a secret society or some assorted negative association with what was done.

Being rude to AQ users who took it seriously is equally inappropriate. Wasn't that what they WANTED everyone to do? Take it seriously?

I 'met' Bindle Babe years ago when she kindly replied to an email about her petosky stone stamp. Y'all can call me a spoil sport, or a stick in the mud, or whatever you like. This is ABSOLUTELY NOT what I think letterboxing is supposed to be about. I'm sorry people, but I just don't. I don't lack a good, stout sense of humor. I enjoy jokes and 'getting' people for April Fool's. That's still no excuse for being nasty.

OMG--I spent the past 2 days stuck toiling at work just drooling over the opportunity to get back to my home computer (not allowed at work) to see where the K-martHA auction 'experience' would lead us next (such as a hidden letterbox clue or something?) but I log on and see that the auction had been pulled and the potential trail to an interesting 'experience' completely dried up. Huh? My fun meter is completely pegged out. Drats. :( April Fools' now officially sucks! And this year had so much going for it, too--it was up there with the old Geoboxing prank (or whatever it was called) from a few years ago. My hopes have been officially deflated. A million thanks to whomever was responsible for this. :(

Agreed. I can't fathom why those who don't have an understanding of all things letterboxing think it's ok to go off half cocked and ruin it for everyone. And who cares if this person portrayed themselves as rude- they weren't claiming to be a letterboxer and so the "image of letterboxers wasn't tainted". We don't need a letterboxing savior. Geesh!

My biggest question is how many letterboxing mavens were in on this? Did they help the "bidding" or were they duped just as well? The bidding roster looked like a veritable "who's who" of letterboxers....

My theory? They were all in on it.

I wondered if bidding would allow me to get some exclusive clues or something like that but I figured if I tried it, I would end up owning a $300 stamp.

Rude?! Heck, the minute I read the first Q and A I was rolling on the floor laughing. It felt like I was in the middle of a Monty Python episode. It was wonderful to see yet another chapter of the KMartha saga unfold so many years since its first appearance. I am amazed at the number of people who didn't see the humor (or the date.)

When I was a kid, my sister and I used to play a game we invented called "Crabby Operator." One of us, the telephone operator, would put our head inside a buttoned up cardigan and the other would talk into the sleeve/telephone. The operator's job was to be really, really crabby to the poor caller. This K-martha prank took me right back to the kid-joy I felt when I was playing that game.

I only wish I knew how this would've all played out. Sigh... Funhog

My sentiments exactly, Funhog. I was hoping for a bonus clues or something. Some of us who have been around here for a few years have come to expect the annual April Fool's joke. When I saw the KMartha auction was offered by Chanticleer Gallery I immediately made a connection with the 2003 hoax by Madeline Gere of the same "gallery". There's still record of it on the letterboxing-usa board, msg 23761, for those who missed it. I think it's brilliant (but maybe I'm in the minority).

Oh well, there's always next year!

Night Owl and I stayed up last night reading through the last day of drama in the K-MartHa saga. We were howling. Art, drama, realization, fear, secret knowledge, exciting characters, never knowing who was serious, or who was just adding to the saga, strong reactions, calling out the dogs, cavalry to the rescue. Oops. It's Dudley Doright. We were shaking with the hilarity of it all.

Does anyone remember who the high bid was and how much?

As one of only two people to fall for a previous 4/1 ruse I . . . well . . . never mind.

On a lighter note, as others have posted,I had some truly wonderful laughs reading the Q&A's on the auction and enjoyed this year's Avril Uno sideshow...if that was what it was...while it lasted. Thanks Chanticleer.

Exactly what I was thinking. I thoroughly enjoyed it and enjoyed asking some of the questions that received, what I thought, were hilarious answers. Thanks Chanticleer. I was honored that you still think of us so fondly.

Please excuse my inexperience, but what was so funny about the KMArtha thing? I still don't get it. Besides that, April Fool's Day is one day 4/1 and does not begin the week before the appointed day. Also, why be so offended that people get upset when it was put forth that the stamp was stolen...........and only a few weeks before there was a HH stamp rescue and that was wonderful!!!!

So where does the KMartha stamp belong....really?
