Description

Are you a tribute? No, I'm not asking if you have been selected to fight to the death in an arena. "Tributes" are fans of the Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins. If this is you, then this is the place to be!

Crazy Mountain Woman and I (Music Chick) will be working all year to get this year's games worked up (Okay, so I lied, some of you may end up being actual tributes. I do promise that you wont be fighting to the death though).

Please join us for a potluck, games, prizes, and, of course, letterboxing! There are not any electrical outlets at the shelter. If you plan on bringing a potluck item that needs to stay warm/hot, please give me advance notice. Quilt Lady 2 lives just a hop, skip, and a jump away and has offered to let us keep crock pots at her home until lunch time. I will transfer crock pots from the park to her home and then back again when it is time to eat.

Weather in Idaho is unpredictable as it is, and October can be even harder to guess at. Please be prepared for cooler weather and bring a jacket. We hope that it will be sunny, but you should prepare for the possibility of rain. If the weather calls for rain, we will come up with an alternative so that the event can still go on.

There will be some prizes given away through raffle drawings. Some extra tickets will be given out to those willing to be tributes. I wont go into detail so as not to ruin anything, but I promise no one will be forced to do anything that they don't want to. I do hope to have a few volunteers to participate in some fun stuff. Guess that's about all I can say without giving anything away!

Due to the violent nature of the Hunger Games series, I strongly urge parents to consider how much exposure their kids have. I'm trying not to focus stamps and themes on the violence involved in this series, but as it plays an important part in the lessons and morals the author wants to convey, it is hard not to have something pop up that might be offensive to some. Please understand that it is not my intent to offend anyone and no offense will be taken if someone chooses not to attend or to not collect certain stamped images. If, at the start of the event, you would like to know of any images that might be too macabre for young ones, I will be more than happy to let you know which ones I personally feel might be disturbing for little ones and why so that you can make your own call.

Besides the normal black and brown ink colors, blue and red ink pads will be of some use. It isn't necessary to go out and buy those colors if you don't already have them, just a suggestion!

Please feel free to contact me with any questions, concerns, advice, counseling, carpal tunnel surgeons, etc. ;)

I look forward to seeing both old faces and new!

Oct 13, 2014: Stamp explanations
Apparently not everybody is as big of a Hunger Games nerd as I am (and also babypanda) and I need to explain a couple of the stamps.

When I Read Cornucopia...This image is what popped into my head when reading the first book and Haymitch tells Katniss and Peeta to stay away from the cornucopia because it will just be a blood bath.

Hope...After Katniss' father dies, her mother goes catatonic and they start to starve. Peeta sees her and throws her some burnt bread. Soon after she sees a dandelion and realizes that she can gather them to eat the greens. She now has a spark of hope for her family to live.

Peeta's Pearl...While those who watched the movie may remember Peeta giving Katniss a pearl in the second arena, in the books it plays a much bigger part. It is even an inside joke between Peeta and Katniss because Effie thinks that pearls come from coal.

Catching Fire...This one was a joke. Almost every search I did for images had this as one of the results. I decided that it was a fun play on the second book/movie title and carved it.
