Description

Calling all history buff letterboxers and other letterboxers who want to make history! Join us on Sunday, February 23, 2014 from 1-6 pm at the Bladensburg Waterfront Park. There will be an indoor gathering place and boxes to hunt outdoors as well. Potluck for snacks and beverages. Hope you can make it.

If you are interested in carving a stamp for the event, we are looking for stamps that reflect little known trivia about a President. Here's a tracker where you can sign up.

Oct 22, 2013: Stamps for Presidential Trivia Event
H all - We're starting to get a nice, if not slightly quirky, list of Presidential Stamps for the upcoming event in February. Take a look -
We're not going to do every President - just too many to replant later. But we'd like to capture about half of the roll. If you're game, and would like to memorialize a favorite President with a piece of trivia, please sign up on the tracker. If you'd like the stamp back after the event, please let us know. Otherwise, we plan to seed the Washington area with the stamps so that all our visitors can enjoy them.

Dec 18, 2013: Presidential trivia signups
Hello all and happy holidays to you

Next Monday Dec 23 will mark two months until the Presidential Trivia event. We are excited by the amazing response we've had. The event now has a wait list of 9 folks. So we're asking everyone who has signed up to please check your calendars and be sure you are still able to come.

If you find you will not be able to attend please drop yourself from the event so that those on the wait list can firm up their plans and we can know whom to expect. Thanks for your attention to this. Looking forward to seeing you soon.

Peace
CTEE, Girlguides, and Pink

Feb 2, 2014: Nearby box thanks to Kirbert
Hello all

Just wanted to be sure you know about the Air Force One box that has been temporarily planted close to the event location. Kirbert was kind enough to offer to do this carve and it is definitely worth the effort to get it. After the event it will be replanted in the DC Metro area probably in Camp Springs MD near Andrews Air Force base where the plane is housed. So put it on your list of boxes to seek while you're in the area!

Looking forward to seeing you in 3 weeks. If you realize that you will not be able to make it, please drop yourself from the event so that we know how many to expect.....but perhaps you can still go get this box ;)

Peace
CTEE

Feb 13, 2014: Presidential Trivia Event in 10 days!
Hello Presidential Trivia Event attendees!

It's snowing in DC now but since you're stuck inside perhaps you can work on some things you'll need for the Presidential Trivia Event on Sunday, February 23. Below are some logistics and other reminders. We are all set to have a splendid time. Hope you are too!

ADVANCE CLUES
  1. Presidential WOM box: What historic 104-foot landmark is not owned by the government but has served presidents since Herbert Hoover and can be found at the Gangplank Marina about one mile from the US Capitol? Give your answer to an event organizer to obtain this stamp. We'll be easy to spot with our festive headgear!
  2. Using the Jefferson cipher decrypt this clue for box #3 and bring your solution with you to the event:
xcoo ztXqu hzf est imfxbvgkkcr. hq zixz Xmw zlorf. Xdeb uybdja jXsih xaupv xxp Xst hgrXd mi gacr.

ON EVENT DAY
After arriving at the park, follow red/white/blue strips on light posts to find parking and event sign-in location. Enter through rear door of white building (near water fountain and restrooms). Look for the small US flags on the doors.

WHAT TO BRING
  • Bring a water bottle--refills will be available....protecting the environment and all that ;)
  • Bring a compass
  • Bring black ink pad as well as black, red, and blue markers
  • Please check your event signup to see if you agreed to bring a potluck item.

WHAT TO DO
  • Everyone will receive 10 raffle tickets at sign in to take chances on our fantastic giveaways.
  • You will also want to visit the Battle of Bladensburg Visitor Center on the park grounds BEFORE 4 pm closing time to obtain the National Park Service stamp. Details are listed under the Event Boxes link.
  • There will be 2 trails for boxing. Each begins near the sign-in building.
  • Dress for the weather but you can come inside to warm up or enter the raffle between each of the trail loops. We will need to be off the trails by 5:00 due to park closing at dark.
  • Each trail takes about one hour. We will not give out clues after 4:00 so please arrive by 3:00 if you hope to do both trails. After the trails you can, of course, eat, visit, do exchanges, PTs and HIPs. Raffle drawing is at 5:15. You must be present to win.

Looking forward to seeing everyone there. The weather forecast is calling for increasing temps throughout next week so let's hope that will dry out all the melting snow before Sunday.

Feb 14, 2014: Jefferson cipher correction!
Thanks to sew sew Bizzy for getting bizzy and decoding the Jefferson cipher right away.....or trying to anyway. She discovered some encryption errors so I'm posting the corrected encryption below. There were spacing errors but the primary error was in the 6th/last 'word' of the first sentence. Here's the new version:

Using the Jefferson cipher decrypt this clue for box #3 and bring your solution with you to the event:
xcoo ztXqu hzf est imf wbvhkkbr. hq zixz Xmw zlorf. Xdeb uybdja jXsih xau pv xxp Xst hgrXd mi gacr.

Good luck and thanks again ssBZ,
CTEE

Feb 21, 2014: Notes for Sunday's event
Hello everyone!

The snow is melting and/or being washed away by the rain and moderate temps are being forecast for Sunday. Some forecasts predict light rain but don't worry.....the show will still go on!

If you happen to have a large golf umbrella, please bring it along. If it rains, the large umbrellas can be used to protect log books as you stamp in. We will have large ziplocs available to protect your clue sheet from the dampness. The boxes are being placed along a paved trail but sturdy footgear is recommended as it will be muddy off trail.

We mentioned to bring the following items but here's another reminder:
WHAT TO BRING
* water bottle--refills will be available
* compass
* black ink pad as well as black, red, and blue markers
* your potluck item
* your solutions to the Advance Clues posted on the Event Page
* golf umbrella (if you have one)

The other boxes in the vicinity can be viewed by using the "Nearby Boxes" link on the Event Page. You could plan to seek them out before the event begins.

We will not distribute clue booklets after 4 PM and we must be off the trails by 5PM but there will be food and raffle items as well as LTC and logbook giveaways so plan to stay until the 6 PM conclusion of the event.

We are really looking forward to this event; meeting new boxers as well as re-connecting with familiar friends. Be sure to check out the Personal Travelers and plan to do exchanges as well.

See you then!

Feb 23, 2014: Logging your finds
Hello all

Thank you to everyone for coming to the Prez Trivia event. We could not have had better weather! It was great to see you and hear all of the positive feedback. It was also wonderful that everyone helped with the cleanup at the end. You are the best!

Surely you want to log those amazing stamps that you found. Here are the appropriate links:
Boxes 1-9
Boxes 10-18

The HIPS boxes are all listed under the event boxes link on the event page. There were some questions about the Reagan HIPS box.....do you recall what his favorite snack treat was? If you found a stamp that relates to that you found the Reagan HIPS.

Thanks again for being such wonderful LB friends. We hope our paths cross again soon.
