Yes - it's early - but we want you to save the date for the 2013 Michigan Fall Gathering "I ♥ the 80's!"

We will post a Google Doc for carving signups in the next few days - first come, first reserved!

There are 27 campsites available at $20/night in neighboring Lower Huron Metropark's Walnut Grove Campground. We recommend you reserve your campsite ASAP. Please go to http://www.metroparks.com/metroparks/parks/index_all.aspx?ID=8&r=0 for information on reserving a campsite.

*Please send your stamp ready to plant (e.g. including logbook, camo'd ziploc or camo'd lock-n-lock & any LB markings/info/notes you want included in or on the box)

March 16, 2013: I ♥ the 80's - Event Info Update
Hi there 80's lovers ! :)

All the glitter, pots of gold, rainbows, and green shamrocks of this happy weekend reminds us of those adorable Care Bears and makes us very excited to go back to the 80's ....

To date we have received over 20 totally rad boxes from the following generous carvers: Housepitality Hostess, FloridaFour, Chili Pepper, Angel Winks, and Gapackrats.

We're looking forward to receiving more boxes in the next few months. Box receipt due date is July 14, 2013.

If you are seeking a hotel, please check out the nearby towns of Belleville, Ann Arbor, or Dearborn. All three are safe, have reasonably priced options, and are within 30 minutes or less of the event site. There are also campsites available ( see above ).

Hi 80's Lovers!

We're just about three months away from going back to the 80's and wanted to share a few logistical items:

1. Boxes are due July 14, 2013
2. Make lodging plans
3. Sign up for the potluck
4. Join the "Pre-Boxing" event
5. Join the "Après-Boxing" event

Boxes
* Box receipt due date is July 14, 2013 -- this is only 3 weeks from now!!!
* Thanks to Housepitality Hostess, Florida Four, Chili Pepper, Angel Winks, and Gapackrats for contributing boxes -- all of your boxes have been safely received and logged on the google doc
* We are looking forward to receiving boxes from Poof, Mammasan, Maude, MommyMouse, Musicpals, Porkchop, Socks3, SpaceBears, TrailTroll, and Wormy Wanderers
* We still need boxes! So to remember which stamps you signed up to contribute, or to sign up, please go to the google docs site at: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AmfrRbj_OzCDdDAxcFBXQnU3eFY4OHFjRnJ2U08yZVE#gid=0
* Boxes will be planted permanently in the park

* SunFleur will be listing all boxes/clues on AQ, so no need for you to do so

Lodging
* Hotels - Try Belleville, Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti, Dearborn or Monroe. All are safe with varying price points, have national chain options, and are within 30 minutes or less of the event site.
* B&Bs -- Check out www.tripadvisor.com for Ann Arbor or Monroe

Potluck
* Please sign up to contribute -- there are 100+ of us and more main dishes/entrees are needed
* The MI Patriot will be bringing his grill to cook burgers and hotdogs
* Please let us know if there are vegetarian or other dietary needs so we can plan and purchase accordingly

"Pre-Boxing" Event
* Sign up for the "I ♥ the 80's:"The Night before" pre-boxing event on AQ
* Join us for dinner at Pizza House in Ann Arbor where we can get a jump start on exchanges and personal travelers
* Then head over to Pinball Pete's for some video game/arcade fun

"Après-Boxing" Event
* SunFleur and The MI Patriot will host a campfire at their campsite in Walnut Grove Campground in Lower Huron Metropark. And you know how The MI Patriot loves his fires -- the bigger the better!
* Come join us for S'mores, boxing stories, and beverages to unwind after a great day boxing!

Hi 80's Lovers!

We are looking forward to welcoming everyone to southeast Michigan's beautiful metroparks for a wonderful day of boxing on Saturday September 28, 2013.

We would like to thank everyone who has carved stamps and planted boxes over the past few months. This 80's event would not have been possible without you!

As you prepare for next Saturday, please keep the following in mind:

*Directions to Willow Metropark are at: http://www.metroparks.com/parks/index_all.aspx?ID=12&r=0
*Daily park entrance fee is $5 and is valid for all metroparks
*Event contribution due at check-in is $5 for each person aged 5 and over in your party.
*Meet at the Willow Food Bar at 10am to check-in and receive your clue packet
*Group photo at 12pm
*Lunch at 12pm
*Bring your normal boxing gear, plus hiking boots, flashlight, bug spray, camp chair, and your bike
*Thriller Nightboxing - look for the signup sheets at the Food Bar!
*Pre-Event: sign up for "I ♥ the 80's:"The Night before"
*Post-Event: Campfire with SunFleur and The MI Patriot at campsite #10 in Walnut Grove Campground in Lower Huron Metropark. Campfire, s'mores and beverages provided, you bring the boxing stories!

The MI Patriot and SunFleur are so grateful for everyone's help - it wouldn't have been possible to host such a totally awesome event without you :-) !

We know you are all eager to log finds and we will be posting clues as well as an accounting of all event expenses shortly - thank you for your patience!

Thanks so much for your patience - we have loaded the remaining clues onto AQ this morning and have listed all box numbers on the google doc (see link in prior event message above) for your reference as well. As promised, below is an accounting of event expenses.

We are posting event expense data not only to provide transparency into how the $5pp event contributions were allocated, but also to provide insight for those who want to host a future event and would like to understand the impact on their personal finances.

It takes a great deal of time, money and effort to host a letterboxing event and we are so appreciative to everyone who pitched in to make it successful - whether it was via carving, contributing $5 or more, contributing to the potluck, bringing table top/HIPS boxes, setting up beforehand or cleaning up afterwards, planting, writing clues, or driving back and forth to the three parks so many times over the past year to help with planning and logistics.

Happy Fall to all - and maybe someday the 80's will return again! :)
