This box is alive and well!!
Once you cross the field and begin to enter the path to the forest you will quickly come upon the three trees. (If you pass a red blazed beech on the left you have gone too far.)
These three trees are medium sized hardwoods, clustered together, right off the trail with a tiny sapling growing between the middle and left one. The container is hidden behind the trees under a SPOS.

We found the right spot and searched all around base of tree, but no luck.
