Description

Dear Letterboxer,

It is a great pleasure to inform you that you have been selected to attend Space Camp.

It is planned to have you assigned to our camp in May of next year. The details of your assignment will be discussed with you after you arrive.

Your background and proven abilities assure us that you are fully aware of the responsibilities you are assuming by accepting this appointment. I am certain that your forthcoming association with the counselors here at Space Camp will prove to be of great benefit to you and our country.

Check In: Space Camp begins the morning of Saturday, May 28th. You should plan on arriving at camp anytime before then. Tardiness is frowned upon.

Orientation: At 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 28th, we will have a short orientation session that is mandatory for all Space Camp participants.

Housing: Alas, government funding for Space Camp has dried up, so you will have to make your own arrangements for housing. We have multiple options which are listed below:

Waterloo Recreation Area - Portage Lake Campground
10300 Seymour Rd., Grass Lake, MI
1-800-44PARKS or www.midnrreservations.com
Portage Lake North is the section of the campground closest to base camp, though the other sites are fine. It would be preferable to have everyone grouped together, though. There are other campgrounds in the park, but they are further away. There is one cabin at Portage Lake, and there is a yurt somewhere in the park, also. No alcohol is allowed at Portage Lake. Animals are allowed(except at the beach) provided they are on a 6 foot leash. Reservations can be made six months in advance. Book early, as the campground will fill up!

Baymont Inn & Suites
1-734-433-1600
1540 Commerce Park Dr., Chelsea, MI

Comfort Inn
1-734-433-8000
1645 Commerce Park Dr., Chelsea, MI

Expect to receive further communications regarding Space Camp in the near future. We look forward to seeing you in May!

Sincerely,
4eyes and Poof - your Space Camp Counselors

Nov 30, 2015: Campsite boxing tracker
For some added fun, Spartanfans is organizing campground boxing! Anyone can find these boxes. Hopefully, we will have at least one box per campsite. Please list it on the tracker as a traditional box and email Spartanfans with your campsite number, so a sign can be made ahead of time.

http://www.atlasquest.com/showinfo.html?trackerId=8734

Also, as a reminder, if you are camping, it is time to make your reservation. That is all for now.

Sincerely,
your camp counselors - Poof and 4eyes

Feb 6, 2016: Space Camp Communication Brief 1.0
Attention Campers!

-Due to some of the activities we are hoping to implement during your time at camp, we are organizing you into groups, or teams, if you will. They are currently set at five teams, with a maximum of 25 each, which, being the mathematicians we know you are, will not work out evenly since there are more than that signed up. We will edit the sign-up max once all the teams are filled to accommodate the rest of the campers. If you have little ones, there is no need to sign them up on the tracker, they will be a part of your team automatically. If you are not able to be at camp on Sunday, please do not join one of the teams. Instead, email your counselors and let them know. We will manually sign you up to a team later. To sign up, go to the Trackers section under your My Page tab at the top here, and look under "others" for the five space camp teams.

-If someone is interested in hosting a mini-meet on Friday night, let us know.

-Don't forget to finalize your accommodations for your stay during space camp.

-If you have not signed up to donate a stamp, please check out the sign-up list here . If none of the stamp ideas listed appeal to you, contact us with your stamp idea and we will add it to the list.

Apr 13, 2016: Space Camp Update
Attention campers!

We were busy last weekend, with the help of Dawnkey, writing clues in the snow for all the wonderful stamps you are carving. We look forward to receiving them soon, as well as we wish to thank those of you who have already sent them in. Remember, the deadline is April 30th which is coming up real soon. There is some wiggle room in that date, so don't sweat it if you are a few days late. But, please start working on your stamp(s) if you haven't already. If you haven't signed up for a stamp, there is still time for you to carve something space related. I think as it stands now, I have only received about 25 stamps. We actually have clues written for more boxes than people have signed up for, so please consider donating a stamp if you are not already signed up to do so. I will send out an address in a separate private email.
Expect more details to come very soon! We look forward to camp and seeing everyone!

Your camp counselors,

Poof and 4eyes

Apr 20, 2016: General Itinerary for Space Camp and misc info
Attention campers!

Here is a general itinerary/list of activities for Space Camp:

Saturday:
- Registration/Orientation/Group Photo - 9am
- Skylab research station - team activity throughout day
- Lunch - 1 PM
- Nightboxing - at night

Sunday:
- Letters to home
- Lunch - on your own
- Team Challenge - afternoon
- Graduation ceremony/pizza party

-We have been approached by a few people, so we are going to go ahead and make the clues available early to anyone who donates ahead of time to GLG. Clues can be picked up at our campsite on Friday if you wish to do this. The suggested donation is $5/adult. Address is forthcoming. Alternatively, you can just donate on Saturday. All extra money collected will be given to next years' GLG hosts.

-Is anyone interested in hosting a mini-meet at their campsite Friday night? A little birdie said campsite 30 might be interested? Any takers?

-We need a count of children under the age of 12 for a special kid's activity. Please email us with your kid count.

-Lastly, please sign up for your team here if you have not already done so. If you are not going to be here on Sunday afternoon, please let us know. You still need to be on a team for Skylab.

This is a lot of information, but we know you can handle it. Any questions, you know what to do.

Sincerely,
your camp counselors - Poof and 4eyes

May 5, 2016: Happy.....
Happy National Astronauts Day! May the 5th be with you! (a day late for the Star Wars reference). Veintitrés días más hasta que la ráfaga apagado!

May 5, 2016: a day late
I know I am a day late for the star wars reference but couldn't resist....

May 23, 2016: Last minute info
As we get ready to blast off, here are a few things to keep in mind.

-Mission control - Poof and 4eyes - are staying at campsites 22 & 23. Early donations can pick up their clue packets here on Friday after 10am.

-The address listed for the event is for the campground, which is where the pavilions are - this is where you need to be Saturday morning. Do not go to the Discovery Center or Park Headquarters! We have two shelters rented at the campground. Lakeview will be where you sign in. The indoor shelter will hold the food and Skylab, and is near the beach. You can access both shelters from either parking lot. If you park at the beach, you will be closer to the indoor shelter, and can drop off your food on the way to the other shelter. Otherwise, follow the signs to the Lakeview shelter, and park over there. If you are camping, you can walk to the shelters, but depending on where your site is, you may want to drive.

-If you haven't added your potluck item, please try to do that.

-Cell service throughout Waterloo is sketchy. Some areas are good, others are bad. Campground is good, and most of the area around the Discovery Center is ok.

-There will be a website (listed in the clue packet) to upload photos. Please take lots of pictures! We might try to create an online album (no promises).

-Lastly, as a good Space Camper, here is a list of items you may or may not want to bring:
*turbo booster
*jet fuel
*sig stamp/logbook
*zero gravity waste system
*headlamps
*graphing calculator or app
*ink
*poncho (it's NOT going to rain...but a good Space Camper is always prepared)
*gallon size baggie - for clue packet rain protection - because a true boxer won't let a little rain stand in their way
*camera
*moon boots

We look forward to your arrival at Space Camp.

-Poof and 4Eyes
