Atlas Quest: Under Construction

Alas, sorry to say, you've reached us at a bad time. We're doing stuff. I know, that sounds vague, but this is a generic message you're looking at. We could be up to a number of things such as:

In all likelihood, we're probably doing several of the things in that list. When we're done, though, the site will be back up and running normally. How long you ask? Oh, that's a hard question to answer. Usually it's not out of commission for more than an hour at a time, but for a particularly big update or one that doesn't go as smoothly as expected, it may take a few hours. It's never taken more than four hours in the past—knock on wood—although that's not to say it can't happen in the future. I'd suggest trying back in an hour or so, though, and see how things are going. If there's really important news about the update, we'll post it on this page.

In the meantime, there is one piece of good news! This is where the clue for the Under Construction letterbox is hidden on Atlas Quest!

Under Construction Clue

Under Construction Letterbox

There is one place in San Luis Obispo, CA, that's never quite done. Structures go up. Sometimes they crash down. And eventually, new ones go up again. It's an endless circle, and this special place is where architecture students from Cal Poly construct some often times weird and bizarre stuff, but strangely fascinating.... The place is tucked away in Poly Canyon, and well worth a visit. You'll have to park on campus if you brought a car—the gravel road to this architectural wonder is closed to motorized vehicles.

A mile or so down Poly Canyon Road you'll see a stone arch on your left. That's the entrance to most architectural oddities, and there are a couple of boxes (and geocaches) in that direction, but for this box, veer off to the right, over the 1865 Baltimore Bridge. (There's another geocache under the far side of this bridge at the time of this writing.) Go over the bridge to where the trail forks. If you look through the trees on your left, you'll see another bridge across the creek. Go to it. The Under Construction letterbox is hidden behind the last cross-brace, on the left, next to the concrete supporting arch. Very close to where my backpack is in this photo. You'll likely have to brush aside twigs, leaves, and other debris from the side of the walkway to get under the walkway where the box is hidden.
