I think it probably depends on the particular rules the owner of that boxing buddy has asked to be followed in respect to a journal and if it only goes to boxing excursions and such. I think souvenirs would always be a nice surprise. You do not need to send one out to host one and there's been a couple that have recently been just started up and still open for sign-ups.

Oh yes! It is almost like Flat Stanley...but most of these have dimension! I did host one one time that was just a stamp....I made a body for her so I could take pics...Did anyone else host any of the Japanese girls? I cant remember what the name of mine was...we did have a great time though!
You do not have to have a buddy to host one either...I am actually thinking about getting Gary the Groundhog out again...I am a little burned out 'cause Crabby didnt come home last time...after loosing his book in Maine, getting it back a year later (found by other boxers), making another book and sending him out he is stuck in MO the last time I heard from him! (Please fly home sooooon Crabby!) but I would consider getting Gary out again! Terrio

Was this one of them? That's the Dutch one, but I believe the Japanese girls were sent out again after the quake for relief fund awareness.

*EDIT
Found them!

Thanks. I figure I'll have to wait until after the holidays. I've been wanting to go to Stone Mountain and I think it'd be a lot of fun taking along a boxing buddy.

I had so much fun hosting the flat travelers. It just stunk when people flaked out and didn't send them back. I think I'll wait until after the holidays and then sign up for one. Thanks for the info!

You should set up a mini meet. There's lots of people who keep going up there that I'm sure you could get a nice little group together, if you want to.

Is there anybody out there?

As I started having a conversation with another letterboxer, I wondered, where have all the boxing buddies gone. As my boxing buddy, Hamlet, plans a trip to visit another, Purple Bear, I was hoping that there were more out there that were just sitting on a shelf, that wouldn't mind a trip to NH or a visitor.

So I guess the question has been asked. Is there anybody out there?

Boxing Buddy for Ireland

Are Boxing Buddies still a thing or have they died a death?

I was wondering if there was a BB who would like to visit Ireland? I would love one to take around the local letterboxes. I can't promise loads of stamps as there are simply not that many boxes here, but I can promise the BB will have a good time, give me a reason to revisit the boxes I have already visited or planted and will arrive home with lots of letterboxing tales to tell.

Sorry, not sure how to calculate from the USA. I have just looked up the cost via An Post from Ireland to USA and I think I must have got it wrong because it seems way more expensive than when I had BB's visit from the USA before. Mind you time has passed and postal rates gone up so that could well be why boxing buddies do seem to have died a death, at least judging by this board :-(

Ooo... A basset hound would be great. Just check the postal rates at your end first though before you commit yourself. You would be posting to Eire, not Northern Ireland.

Boxing Buddy Needed for Washington DC Tour

Wanted: an energetic Boxing Buddy to put some fun into our sightseeing in Washington DC. I'm taking a family out boxing with me that has a young boy around 7. They are new to the game and I thought introducing him to a Buddy would make it more fun for him...hanging out with adults can be boring...or so I've been told. Anyway, if you have a friend who hasn't traveled to DC before please look me up.

boxing buddy
A boxing buddy is a small mascot, usually a small stuffed animal, complete with its own signature stamp and logbook, to travel with you and share in your letterboxing adventures.

You'd probably have more luck posting on the PA board.
