Seems higher than normal based on this limited information
Number of New Members:
Yesterday 141
Last 7 Days 183
That means there were (183-141=) 42 new members over 6 days which averages out to 7 new members per day. Compared to 141 yesterday.
that's ~ 20x above the daily average

My personal website where I put my linked clues had 6 new visitors since the mention on Reddit. I'm hoping this is a positive sign and that there may be some new boxers in the area soon. ...A girl can dream....

I just checked out some of my clue hits. My boxes in big cities (New York, Toronto, San Diego) had a crazy number of hits on January 2. Holding my breath that they survive.

And now letterboxing will become the macrame of the 2000s.

There is a letterboxing subreddit. I subscribed to it a couple of years ago, but the subreddit didn't seem too active.

Will do...time to dig out the snowshoes.
ETA: I just checked the hits on my clues and there were only 2-3 per box on Jan. 2.
:O)

Perhaps someone should do an AMA (Ask Me/Us Anything) post on Reddit so that people who are interested can ask questions from long-time boxers and not newbies giving newbies advice. I found someone trying to upload pictures of their first find today to show off what a letterbox was. I love their enthusiasm but would hate for boxes to go missing/be ruined by people just going for it without reading the "rules."

No idea. I don't look at it all that often, but I don't ever remember seeing a number above 10,000 before. This is way higher than anything I've ever seen before. *nodding*

If anyone is curious, yesterday's visitation numbers were just over 14,000 visits. Way above normal levels (nearly 5 times higher than normal!), but a very sharp drop from the nearly 80,000 visits the site got the day before!
Nobody ever reported any downtime either, so that's good. =)

I dunno. There was that one time McDonalds ran their Letterboxing promotion a few years back. Not sure what the web login statistics were, but I believe we added several thousand users that day!

Yes, that was probably the one-day record for new accounts. *nodding* Even the Reddit thing didn't come close to touching that record....

Somewhere between about 100 and 200 new members.
Speaking of which... hello, new members! If any of you are reading this! =)

The number of new members yesterday and over the last 7 days is always shown at the bottom of this page:
http://www.atlasquest.com/aboutus/stats/
Number of New Members:
Yesterday: 31 #This would be for Jan 3rd
Last 7 Days: 205
Compare this to the stats I posted yesterday
http://www.atlasquest.com/boards/message.html?msgId=940000;gThreadId=135862
Number of New Members:
Yesterday 141 #This would be for Jan 2nd
Last 7 Days 183
If we take the average to be 7 new members per day, then:
For Jan 2nd - about 20x above normal
For Jan 3rd - about 4.5x above normal

But McDonald's Geocaching promo was a much larger success judging by all the Happy Meal trinkets found in my geotrashed letterboxes.

What's so encouraging is McDs Wi-Fi will always connect me to Atlas Quest even when my ChromeBook can't get connected to any other internet site no matter what i google. That speaks well for AQ's technical accessibility. Overall Ryan has gone above and beyond making this site as user friendly *nodding* as Ryanly possible.

Sure shows not many talking any more. Considering the 2008-2009 of long ago, wow, what a difference, and even as much as a couple of years ago, too. Looks to me like this hobby is losing interest, jmo....sad, that...

Not necessarily--letterboxers from way back claim letterboxers and letterboxes had a special cachet just because they were so rare. One reason I can't get into geocaching is because there are so many geocaches--finding them is like finding a McDonalds.
